PET

PETG is a glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate. PETG is a perfectly
transparent amorphous copolyester, which combines good toughness
with better chemical resistance than most other transparent polymers.
With a similar Young's Modulus, toughness and transparency as PC it can in
many cases be used instead of PC, but the softening temperature
(Vicat / HDT) is lower. Typical application areas are displays and signs,
packaging (blisters and bottles) and medical components and packaging.
For medical applications the good resistance against sterilisation using gamma rays and ethylene oxide is important.

Specific properties
Density: 1.20 - 1.30 g/cm3, depending on copolymer composition.

Mechanical properties: Average Young's Modulus (around 2000 MPa) and
tensile strength (ca. 50 MPa). High strain at break and impact strength.

Thermal properties: Tg between 70 and 110 °C, depending on
copolymer composition

Chemical resistance: Good resistance against dilute solutions of acids
and bases, soaps and salts. Good resistance against oil, aliphatic hydro-
carbons and alcohols. PETG is attacked or dissolved by ketones and
aromatic and halogenated hydrocarbons.

Colour/surface
Colourless transparent, very high light transmission with high gloss.
Can easily be coloured.

Processing
Can be injection moulded, thermoformed, extruded, blow moulded.

Applications
Packaging: Blister packaging, bottles for drinks, soaps, detergents
and cosmetics.
Medical: device packaging, drug packaging, medical instruments,
lab ware, syringes, dialysis equipment.
Consumer products: kitchenware, food storage containers,
plastic utensils, bottles, chairs, lighting articles.
Advertising: (thermoformed) signs and displays, vending
machines.
